Reporting to your own presence is like reporting to a boss, a teacher or anyone you find yourself giving a status update to accomplish something like a task or bigger project. Usually, when one requires a status - there is some thought that is provoked before reporting back to the receiver. The receiver is usually a partner in the project at hand. However, do you take the time to update yourself with presence?
3 ways to WORK with presence.
Reporting to presence brings impact for finding life with purpose. Reporting to presence is a heart centric practice. Consider assigning times on a daily basis to begin to open the communication with presence. Making specific times available throughout the day strengthens the abilities we wish to gain. We report to our phones by the hour… by the minute too...wouldn't it be worth considering reporting to presence too? Below are 3 ways to explore reporting with presence.
Give direction with commitment
Let it be a statement, a positive thought, a word. Whichever words you participate in, let it lead your day. When you wake up in the morning try beginning with 1-2 minutes where you can just sit and be with the thought of words before you do anything at all. Do this immediately after you rise out of bed, look at the phone or brush your teeth. Presence first. A daily morning practice sets the tone for presence and connects the mind and heart. It's a signal for your day's journey. Begin this practice by committing to a short amount of time each morning and if your schedule allows, add more time to this practice as it begins to feels good. The directional words/thoughts are at the top of your report every day. Begin to notice what you notice throughout the day as you lead the day with this commitment.
Certainty amplIFies
Type out, draw, paint or collage the word CERTAINTY. Make several copies of it, cut it out and keep a stack of mini's in your closet. As you get dressed every day, grab this piece of paper and put it in your pocket. Like a card of business - give yourself this contact as an agreement to connect with it throughout the day. There are so many times we go about our days and the slightest thing could turn us into an unconscious state of fear, worry or doubt - especially with the uncertainty of these times. This happens to all of us, but your mind and heart will thank you for getting into a habit of powerfully nudging uncertainty aside. Uncertainty brings less solutions - so choose the partner of certainty. Remember - you hold the card in your pocket - so you may access it anytime. The hope is to bring more awareness around certainty and remember it is always there. Ultimately, this practice will bring more connections back to presence and unlocks thinking that inspires action.
Embrace emotional states
A way to include emotions into the report might feel good in a form of mediation at the end of the day, but if you are not comfortable with meditation you could write this as bullet points instead. The objective is that you spend time with your feelings and bring them to the report. Name the feelings and emotions you felt throughout the day. Communicating this in the report will help presence needs and desires. It is recommended to also recognize when feelings are claimed out loud to another person/thing that day. If you felt something and didn't express it to another, name this too. List all feelings by the day. Imagine each of them as a line to you. The report should aim to call upon times of emotion and bring them to your attention.
Example: Date, Hours, List feelings, Details of when (action) happened and when you shared this with (name/thing) and it made them feel (feeling). Conclude the list with any needs/wants around the feeling.
If you find yourself at a loss for feelings at the end of the day, it is suggested to flip a dictionary and randomly select a word that is a feeling. Reflect and journal about the feeling. Write what comes to mind. Past, present or future...actual or fantasy. This will deepen your ability to connect presence with an acknowledgement of feelings and the meanings behind them. There are said to be as many as 27 felt feelings within human potential - understanding them is like a hide and seek game for your creative energy.
operationalize A process
Reporting with presence allows a deeper connection to yourself. You are the guide for how the operation works. A reporting structure works in other fields of work and these examples are ways to improve the report….the more you do them the more often presence will charge self leadership and whole-being.
Begin to report with presence, then notice the signals and signs that you are doing well with the work as the gains will come back to you. To become a strong witness in the practice of reporting and the connection with it - you may try to track the signs as they come to you throughout your day with a double tap to your heart, or track it in a notebook.
Just don’t over think it - reports are simple and they give information. Presence is a source to build upon for a life living with purpose.
